Across our region, students are preparing to go back to school for another year of learning. The night before school starts, every student probably feels the same way, excited to see their old friends, happy to make new friends, and possibly a little bit nervous about meeting their new teacher and learning new topics.
While many children may feel the same just before school starts, their trip to and from school the following day will significantly differ. While some students will ride their bikes, take a car, or walk, others will be put at great risk, traveling on dangerous roads without proper protection. Safe mobility and easy commuting to school are at the heart of our work. Every student deserves safe access to their education.
Safe mobility and youth voices are central themes of the winning video of the
Heads Up! Competition, ‘Keep it in your head’ by Fifty Five Studio Productions, a group of dedicated university students from De la Salle Lipa, the Philippines. The winning team appealed to our innermost emotions, asking us to reflect on the importance of our memories and what we can easily do to keep our most cherished thoughts safe. It is a beautifully filmed video highlighting the stark consequence of not wearing a helmet.
To safeguard vulnerable school children traveling to school across Vietnam, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC), in collaboration with AIP Foundation, hosted a regional training workshop to train 6000 teachers on the new traffic safety e-curriculum. In this spirit, we champion long-term sustainability for safe mobility in Vietnam.
In the same spirit, AIP Foundation Thailand hosted a weekend of Master Teacher Trainings as part of the
Chevron Street Wise program. Teachers learned about road safety skills and how they can be at the forefront of ensuring their students’ lives are better protected on the road.
In India, teachers were also prioritizing their students’ lives by attending a refresher course on helmet safety as part of the
Safety Delivered program supported by The UPS Foundation.
No matter how we move, mobility is at the heart of our society and our future generations’ access to education. This is why we are delighted to celebrate the success of the first year of the
AI&Me program, starting with approvals to the program’s implementation by the governments both at national and provincial levels. This paves the way for youth voices to shape a newer and greener mobility.
Around the world, we all have a stake in improving global road safety standards through innovation.
As part of the
Heads Up! Project, The FIA Foundation and FIA Region II (Asia Pacific), AIP Foundation, and AA Vietnam hosted a virtual tour of the Protec Tropical Helmets Factory, a social enterprise in Vinh Phuc Province that produces the revolutionary new ECE 22 United Nations standard helmets.
We must work together with all countries aligning and implementing the Global Plan to achieve the ambitious targets set. The NTSC in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), organized a Road Safety National Stakeholder Meeting in Vietnam to discuss solutions to effectively implement the goals of the Global Action Plan on Traffic Safety
As part of our model school safety zone program,
Slow Zones, Safe Zones, we launched an international fundraising campaign to provide 70 new bicycles for low-income students to be able to bike to and from school. This year, our program is increasingly encouraging students and their families to use sustainable means of transport — paving the way for healthier cities.
