Master Teacher Training prioritizes student’s access to education in Southern Thailand

August 27, 2022

SONGKHLA and NAKHON SI THAMMARAT Provinces, Thailand – August 27-28, 2022

Around the world, everyone has the right to go to school to learn and build their future to achieve their dreams. Safe mobility and easy commuting to school are at the heart of everyone’s access not only to education but also to lifelong learning. However, not every student across Thailand enjoys equal safety on their way to and from school.

A sustainable approach to building capacity for teachers

In the spirit of safeguarding vulnerable students on their way to school, AIP Foundation is hosting a weekend of Master Teacher Trainings as part of the Chevron Street Wise program. The Master training will welcome teachers from two provinces to learn about road safety skills and how they can be at the forefront of ensuring their students’ lives are better protected on the road.

Throughout the training day, the teachers will gain deep insight into the provincial policy from local police officials, current updates on the statistics of accidents and injuries affecting young students, as well as resuscitation and CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training. The teachers will then be sorted into groups to make a road safety plan for their schools. These will be mentored by leading experts from public health and government officials on the following three topics:

• Helmet measurements organization in schools

• Extracurricular interactive and fun activities for increasing road safety knowledge and awareness

• Learning area, walk across the road (use of the Road Safety Corners)

The training over the weekend is the first in-person training since the Covid-19 pandemic.  Overall, the Master trainers learn how to best engage students in learning lifelong road safety skills in a creative and interactive manner. They will further gain in-depth insight, which they can impart to their students. In this spirit, we champion long-term sustainability for safe mobility in students in Thailand.

More about the Chevron Street Wise program:

Chevron Thailand has partnered with AIP Foundation since 2014 to implement the Chevron Street Wise program to create a safer environment for road users – especially young children – through education, awareness-raising, as well as stakeholders, and community engagement.

The Chevron Street Wise program is inherently aligned with the Global Plan as part of the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021 – 2030 and Thailand’s National Road Safety plan. At the core of this program, all activities engage our youth to be a part of the solution to empower safer road users. Because safe mobility and easy commuting to school are at the heart of access to education.
